MN Rebate Buddy

The deadlines that decide whether you get paid

Rebate money disappears three ways: programs expire, application windows close, and first-come-first-served funds run dry. Here's the 2026 calendar.

April 15, 2027 (2025 tax return)

Last call for the dead federal credits (25C / 25D)

The federal energy tax credits expired December 31, 2025 — but if you installed a qualifying heat pump, furnace, insulation, solar, or battery during 2025, you claim it on your 2025 federal return. This tax season is the last chance. Installs done in 2026 get nothing.

September 30, 2026

Xcel application window for 2025 installs

Xcel Energy is accepting rebate applications for equipment installed in 2025 through September 30, 2026. If you put in a heat pump, water heater, or insulation last year and never filed the utility rebate, the money is still on the table for a few more months.

June 30, 2026 — passed

Federal EV charger credit (30C) has ended

The 30% (up to $1,000) home EV charger credit expired June 30, 2026. Chargers installed on or before that date in qualifying census tracts can still be claimed at tax time; new installs no longer qualify.

While funds last

City programs are first-come, first-served

Minneapolis Green Cost Share, Northfield's heat pump match, and St. Louis Park Climate Champions run on annual budgets that can run out mid-year. St. Louis Park also requires pre-approval BEFORE you sign a contract. If a city match is part of your stack, apply early in the year.

Save Energy Minnesota launch (HEAR / HOMES)

No launch date. Not retroactive. The deadline risk runs the other direction: doing the work too EARLY disqualifies you. If you're income-qualified, get on the launch alert list and sequence around it.

Not sure which of these apply to you? Run the rebate checker — it sorts them by your utilities, city, and household.
